In the end I want to achieve a real Evernote Alternative including the following functions: I think Nextcloud is already perfect for syncing and organizing files. Markdown Notes (and render it, but no live-preview while typing)įor this I developed a REST API which makes it possible to save Notes/Todolists, create users, share Notes/Todolists etc… I want to change this to integrate with Nextcloud - without the need of an additional REST-API/Server component.Tags and subtags should be there in tasks too. Because a thing can carry several tags and several things can have the same tag but the same can’t be done with folders. Tags have become an alternate way to organize one’s stuff apart from the folder. Also, there are no subtags.ģ What app features are you looking for in a FOSS Evernote replacement? Something I can copy in to a word or libreoffice document. It is MD and I would have preferred WYSIWYG format one. And the Notebook format too.Ģ Have you tried any FOSS alternatives to Evernote? Here is my response to some questions asked in this thread:ġ Are you currently using Evernote? If so, what features are the most helpful? I am constantly looking for an alternative to evernote but I haven’t liked anything so far. First of all I would like to thank the developers for their hard work. I am a new Nextcloud user and posting for the first time in the forum. With regards to the comic… I never once said anything about creating new standards. You are actually saying that because it’s open source I must provide feedback (esp., through bug reporting) even though I am not using it? Huh? I have already invested a lot of time in looking for an evernote replacement, including filing bug reports for projects which “maybe” might be a replacement (sadly, they never are). Translation: you’re not interested in helping anyone but yourself?Ĭolor be baffled because I simply don’t understand your logic. I see value (a lot of value) in having a true FOSS replacement for Evernote. I would most definitely like to have a true replacement for Evernote - it’s the one proprietary thing I have to work with because no FOSS solution can replace it. What I would like to do is push the discussion away from MD editors as a replacement for Evernote (which they are not - alternatives to evernote, sure). And I bet, many of them have a pretty good understanding of “how things should work”. Probably half of the nextcloud used >base has had this idea before. Please read the rules of conduct.īasically, you want somebody to do the work for you, while you do some directing? Ideas are not the problem here. Sorry for the late reply… I’ve been a bit busy lately.įirst and foremost, you are very aggressive. Once we have this version, we will be happy to support somebody to make the Nextcloud integration. After releasing a stable react based TS we will consider release also an webdav version as usual. This will probably keeping us busy for the next 1-2 months.

More good news, main Tagspaces dev wrote that once Tagspaces re-write is complete in the coming months, he will then consider releasing as a Nextcloud app.Īs you may already know, we are currently rewriting the core of TagSpaces in react.js. Good news, the author of Joplin re-opened the integrate Ne xtcloud Notes issue just a few hours ago and added the enhancement tag. It’s very close to what I want, but the author has no intention of ever fixing its deficiencies… I’d prefer for the files stored on the filesystem be arranged in such a way that they make sense in and of themselves. I will continue to keep my fingers crossed that the Tagspaces author makes the desktop client WebDAV-capable, and that he makes an NC app version of it.Īfter a few days of evaluation, I do not believe Joplin suits my needs. The suggestion that someday there might be an Joplin NC app doesn’t fix this… I’d prefer for the files stored on the filesystem be arranged in such a way that they make sense in and of themselves. The end result is that though my notes might be recoverable if I was ever forced to use another application, it would be non-trivial and require great effort. Given that Nextcloud makes a database available for such things, and given that the filesystem can map to Joplins “many notes in many notebooks” nesting hierarchy, this shouldn’t be strictly necessary. Though they use the md extension and are nominally markdown, every one of them is contaminated with strange metadata tags. When it saves/syncs files to Nextcloud, the filesystem is used as a slop bucket of randomly named files. It’s very close to what I want, but the author has no intention of ever fixing its deficiencies. After a few days of evaluation, I do not believe Joplin suits my needs.
